Forces in Year 5

We have been investigating the fascinating world of forces and gravity!

We started with a big question: Do heavier objects fall faster than lighter ones? To explore this, we carried out a fun experiment inspired by one of history’s most famous scientists — Galileo!

You can see we dropped two balls of different masses from the same height at the same time. We watched carefully to see what would happen.

To our surprise, both balls hit the ground at the same time! This helped us learn that, in the absence of air resistance, all objects fall at the same rate — no matter their mass. That’s the power of gravity in action!

This activity helped us understand:

Gravity is a pulling force that acts on all objects.

All objects are pulled towards the Earth at the same rate, regardless of how heavy they are.

Science is all about asking questions, testing ideas, and learning from observations.
