Our Intent, Implementation and Impact Statement

Intent

The intention of the Spanish curriculum at Holbeach Primary School is not only to provide a high-quality education that allows students to understand and communicate in Spanish, but also to instill a love for languages. Learning a foreign language is a necessary part of being a member of a multi-cultural society and provides an opening to other cultures. We ensure that pupils at Holbeach have a solid foundation for this journey.

All children will be expected to achieve their full potential by encouraging high expectations. Learning another language improves our students’ confidence and it also enables them to practise their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Therefore, our teaching of Spanish aims to help pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. Children will progressively acquire, use and apply a growing bank of vocabulary organised around topics. Some of the topics covered include: greetings, numbers, colours, food, animals, body parts, objects in the classroom, subjects and hobbies .
