Why Humour and Connection Matter

A shared giggle, a funny face, a spontaneous game—they may seem small, but these moments help children form meaningful relationships with peers and adults. Humour builds trust, encourages social bonding, and creates a sense of belonging. It also gives children a fun and gentle way to explore emotions.

This Week we have played:

🌀 Parachute Games – There’s nothing quite like the excitement of watching the parachute billow and fall! The children loved taking turns running underneath, popping soft balls in the air, and learning to work together as a team.

🪶 Fanning Feathers – A sensory delight! We used feathers and gentle fanning games to spark giggles and encourage calm, cooperative play. This simple activity was a big hit and brought lots of joyful squeals.

🎶 Singing Ring Games – These traditional circle games helped us build a strong sense of community. Songs like “Ring-a-Ring o' Roses” and “The Farmer in the Dell” got everyone involved and moving, while also building language, rhythm, and listening skills.

Talking About Feelings – Especially Excitement!

With all the fun and laughter, we took time to pause and talk about the emotions we were feeling—especially excitement. The children shared how their bodies feel when they’re excited (fast heartbeats, big smiles, wiggly legs!), and we talked about ways to enjoy that feeling, as well as how to calm down when things get a bit too buzzy.

By recognising and naming emotions, children build emotional literacy and confidence—important skills for lifelong wellbeing.
