Culture Week in Pebble Class!
Pebble and Shell class visited Canada this week in our imaginations!
We took a virtual walk through an old growth forest of British Columbia, on Canada's west coast and were inspired by the beautiful nature paintings of Canadian artist, Emily Carr.
We learned about the Arctic and experimented with ice.
We also learned about beavers and how maple syrup is made from the sap of maple trees. We even tasted maple syrup and found out it is sticky and sweet!
The Canadian flag has a maple leaf so we used maple leaves to make rubbings and created our own flags! The maps of Vancouver Island were so fun to explore.
We even had a special visitor, Margot and Frieda's mum, who brought in homemade pancakes and maple syrup to share with all the Reception children. We loved tasting these and also learned so much from hearing stories from Newfoundland on the east coast of Canada. Thank you so much for your visit and lending us your books about Canada. We enjoyed reading them!
Then on Friday we each came dressed in clothes from our own cultures and celebrated each other with songs and a parade and sharing our different cultural food. Thank you for all the food you shared. It was a wonderful, colourful and tasty celebration!!
