Culture Week in 1B
1B's Wonderful Culture Week Adventure!
What an exciting and enriching Culture Week we had in 1B!
We kicked off the week with a fantastic launch assembly, where we were treated to an amazing drum performance that filled the hall with energy and rhythm – the perfect start to our cultural celebrations!
This year, 1B focused on the beautiful country of Bangladesh. Throughout the week, we explored different aspects of Bangladeshi life, geography, and culture. We learnt about some truly inspirational people, including Nasima Akter, a pioneering female surfer, the legendary musician Lalon Shah, and the famous artist Zainul Abedin, known for his powerful paintings.
In our maths lessons, we practised writing Bengali numbers, and we learnt about Bangladeshi money, takas. We discovered how floating farms help people grow food even during floods, and we explored the climate and wildlife of Bangladesh, learning how the country’s geography shapes daily life.
On Monday and Wednesday lunchtimes, we had a real treat, we visited the Holbeach Cinema, where we watched children’s television shows from around the world, including Mongolia, Bangladesh, the Philippines, and Spain. It was so much fun to see how children in other countries play, learn and live!
Our taste buds also went on a journey as we enjoyed some juicy mango – a popular fruit in Bangladesh. We also got creative by sewing colourful patterns into jute fabric. Did you know? Bangladesh is the world’s top exporter of raw jute and jute products, exporting around 1 billion US dollars' worth each year!
We also loved having a special international menu in the dining hall throughout the week, with delicious dishes from around the world to try each day. It made lunchtime extra exciting – especially because our teacher joined us in the hall to share the experience with us!
To end the week, we had a wonderful celebration on Friday. We came to school dressed in traditional or celebratory clothes, representing many different cultures from our school community. We brought in special foods from home and shared a delicious feast together. It was a fantastic way to connect, learn, and celebrate the diversity in our class. As a whole school, we came together to sing joyful songs, and we finished with a colourful parade around the school, proudly showing off our outfits and big smiles!
Culture Week was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate diversity and learn about life in another part of the world. 1B had a brilliant time and came away with new knowledge, new experiences, and lots of excitement to keep learning about different cultures.
Thank you to everyone who helped make Culture Week so special!
