Top tips for managing transition from Nursery to Reception
As we approach the end of the nursery year, we know that both excitement and a bit of apprehension can come with the transition to Reception. We are here to support you and your child every step of the way. Here are our top tips to help make this transition as smooth and enjoyable as possible:
1. Talk About the Change
Discuss the upcoming transition with your child. Use positive language and express enthusiasm about the new experiences and friends they will make. Reading books about starting school can also be very helpful.
2. Establish a Routine
Start practising the new school routine a couple of days before school starts. This includes waking up, having breakfast, and getting dressed at the same time each day. A consistent bedtime routine is also crucial for ensuring your child is well-rested and ready for school.
3. Encourage Independence
Help your child develop independence by practising skills such as dressing themselves, using the toilet, and tidying up their toys. These skills will boost their confidence and ease the transition.
4. Label Everything
Ensure that all your child’s belongings, from uniforms to lunch boxes, are clearly labeled with their name. This helps prevent lost items and teaches your child to be responsible for their belongings.
5. Stay Positive
Your attitude towards the transition will influence your child’s feelings. Stay positive and calm, even if you’re feeling a bit anxious. Your confidence will help your child feel secure and excited about the change.
In nursery, we will also be doing a lot of work with your child about starting this next step in their education. These activities are designed to make them feel confident and excited about moving to Reception.
We are confident that with these tips and your support, your child will have a wonderful start to their Reception year. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us..
