Black History Month in Red Class
We have been celebrating Black History Month.
We are Artists.
We looked at the work of Lynette Yiadom-Boakye and Chis Ofili. We discussed what we noticed in their work and how they showed emotions on people's faces. We drew portraits, thinking carefully about using the facial features to show emotion.
We are Chefs.
We learnt about Lorraine Pascale and her recipe for tiger cakes. We made tiger sandwiches with marmalade and chocolate spread.
We are Astronauts.
We shared a story about Mae Jemison. We went on a space walk around our classroom and drew ourselves as Astronauts.
We are Dancers.
We followed an online dance lesson with Oti Mabuse. We froze in different dance poses. We drew ourselves dancing, thinking carefully about the position of or limbs.
We are Runners.
We had a visit from Marathon runner Deanne Dublin. She told us about running all round the world and showed us some of her medals. Deanne gave us a warm up and we went on a run with her. We drew ourselves running super fast! zoom, zoom!
We are Hair stylists.
We learnt about celebrity stylist and business owner Lorraine Dublin. we looked at some amazing hair styles and designed some of our own.
We are Inventors.
We learnt all about Lonnie Johnson. He invented the SuperSoaker! We created inventions of our own.
We are Architects.
We looked at buildings designed by Elsie Owusu and Norma Merrick Sklarek. We built amazing buildings of our own.
We are Red Class and we can do anything!
