5B visited Creekside Discovery Centre this week.

After putting on our waders, we went into the river to explore the location. We found out about how the river is affected by the tides and looked at what we could see as we moved upstream. It was a slow moving river on the day we visited, but we raced some rubber ducks to see how fast the river was moving. As part of our walk we noticed the plants that grew alongside the river and thought about how some of the buildings had been used in the past.

On our way back we stopped for a spot of pond dipping, and found lots of creatures that call the creek their home. We found some shrimp, some Gobi, and even an eel!

Back at the centre, we looked at different artefacts that had been found in the creek, dating back to the time that the area was used for lots of industry such as pottery, shipbuilding and even as a meat processing centre!
