PE
The children have been enjoying both indoor and outdoor PE sessions. We are very proud that nearly everyone can now put their own socks and shoes back on independently after PE. If your child is still finding this tricky, please continue to help them practise at home, as this is a great way to build their independence and confidence.

Maths
Last week, we explored different arrangements of 4 and practised describing what we could see. The children used mathematical language such as, "There are 2 at the top and 2 at the bottom. Altogether there are 4." This week, we have been drawing our own arrangements of 4 and practising writing the numeral 4. We continue to develop our counting skills every day and are becoming more confident at subitising (recognising small quantities without counting).

Reading
This week, each reading group will bring home their new reading record and a phonics book. The phonics book will be linked to the sounds we are currently learning in school. Children will also have the opportunity to choose their own storybook to share at home.

Your child's reading day will be written on the front of their reading record. Please make sure that all reading books are in school on this day. We recommend that children bring their book bag to school every day so that letters, books and their work can be sent home safely.

Parents are very welcome to write comments in their child's reading record, but please don't feel any pressure to write every day. The most important thing is spending time sharing books together regularly. Reading a story, talking about pictures, discussing favourite parts, and enjoying books together all help to foster a lifelong love of reading.

After half term, the children will begin bringing home an exercise book containing some of the phonics activities we have been working on in class. We hope you enjoy looking through their learning together!

Autumn

We have been learning about the changing seasons and have been talking about the signs of autumn. The children have enjoyed discussing the changes they can see around them, such as leaves changing colour and falling from the trees, cooler weather, and conkers, acorns and other seasonal treasures appearing on the ground.

A big thank you to everyone who has brought in autumn treasures from their walks and adventures. We have loved investigating them closely, talking about what they are, exploring their textures and colours, and using them in our learning.

Library Visit

Last week, we visited the school library and had a wonderful time exploring lots of interesting books with our friends. The children enjoyed looking through a variety of stories and sharing their favourite books with one another. We also loved listening to a story together in the library, which was a special part of our visit.

Reading for pleasure is such an important part of learning, and we hope the visit has inspired the children to discover even more books. Over the half-term break, you might like to visit Catford Library together to borrow some new stories to share at home. A trip to the library is a great way to encourage a love of reading and enjoy books together.
