Another wonderful week in Shell Class! 🐚

The children have continued to enjoy coming to school and it has been lovely to see them becoming more confident each day. We have been spending lots of time building relationships, getting to know one another and helping the children feel happy, safe and secure in their new classroom.

This week we have been talking about our Shell Class agreement and what it means to be part of our class family:

- Be Kind
- Be Gentle
- Be a Team
- Be Honest

We have been thinking about what these look and sound like in our classroom and how we can show them to our friends and adults.

We have also been learning some very important Reception routines! The children have been practising how to sit beautifully on the carpet, walk safely in a line, carry their lunch tray and use and tidy away our classroom resources. These may seem like simple things, but they are all important steps towards becoming confident and independent learners.

Phonics

This week we have been using claves to explore sounds and develop our listening skills. We have been experimenting with syllables, pitch and speed and the children have really enjoyed making music together.

You can help at home by clapping the syllables in your child’s name and other familiar words. For example, “El-lie” has two claps and “ba-na-na” has three! You can also have fun saying or singing words in different voices, changing the pitch from high to low and the speed from slow to fast.

Maths

In maths, we have been singing lots of number songs and enjoying using our voices and actions to explore numbers. We have also started learning about our day using our visual timetable. This is helping the children to understand what happens next and become familiar with the different parts of our school day.

Next week we will be celebrating our families and talking about the special people who are important to us. We will also be reading the beautiful story Owl Babies and exploring the themes of family, love and looking after one another.
