Ragged School Museum
Year 3 had a fantastic time visiting the Ragged School Museum as part of our learning about the Victorians.
The children stepped back in time and experienced what it might have been like to be a child in a Victorian classroom. We thought about how school was different from today and what everyday life would have been like for Victorian children.
We also explored a typical one-room Victorian home. The children looked carefully at the possessions a family might have owned and discussed how a whole family would have lived, cooked, slept and worked together in such a small space.
We also learnt about everyday jobs such as doing the laundry. The children discovered how families had to collect and carry water and thought about how much harder washing clothes would have been without the taps, washing machines and other appliances we use today.
It was a brilliant opportunity to bring our Victorian topic to life and helped the children imagine what everyday life was really like over 100 years ago!
