Noticing signs of Autumn in Shell Class

This week, we have been noticing the changes in our environment as we move from summer into autumn. The children have loved exploring the autumn treasures they have found, including conkers, leaves and other natural objects. We have used these in lots of exciting activities, but our favourite was definitely conker rolling! The children had great fun rolling their conkers and developing their gross motor skills and hand-eye coordination as they carefully watched and followed the conker with their eyes.

We have also been creating some beautiful patterns, helping us to develop our fine motor skills and pen control. We are becoming increasingly confident with our mark making and are learning the importance of writing from left to right. There has been some fantastic concentration and progress!

In maths, we have continued to practise subitising, recognising small quantities without needing to count each object, and spotting smaller amounts within larger groups. We have also been developing our one-to-one correspondence through our new phrase, “Move it to prove it!” The children have been practising moving each object as they count, helping them to count accurately and make sure every item is counted once.

A big thank you to all the parents who attended our phonics workshop. We hope you found it useful and enjoyed finding out more about how we support the children’s early reading skills.

Next week, we will begin learning our first phonics sounds, which is very exciting! We will also be getting ready to send reading books home after half term, so the children can begin sharing their reading journey with you.

Have a lovely weekend, everyone!
