Turtle class have had another busy week of playing, learning and making friends. The children have now settled into the routine and are following our class rules and expectations. Well done Turtle Class. Our favourite phrase at the moment is "choose it, use it, put it away!" Everyone is being really responsible and looking after our classroom.

This week, we started Black history month and children were introduced to 2 scientists. Mae Jemison who was the first African-American woman to travel to space and George Washington Carver who planted peanuts and sweet potato and made them into paint, animal food and even medicine. During our provision, the children got to explore space in our investigation area and small world and were planting outside like George. We also started a science experiment with a sweet potato. We are going to observe the changes and will keep you updated. Over the month of October we will celebrate black British creativity. This week the children were introduced to some music from the group Musical youth and the singer Jorja Smith. The children expressed themselves with movement whilst listening to the songs. We have some fantastic dancers in Turtle class!

Our book of the week this week was The leaf Thief. We had a small world set up to represent the story. The children enjoyed finding out that there was not actually a thief but instead it was the wind! Children explored lots of Autumn both inside and outside, We practised our cutting skills by cutting leaves, we done leaf rubbings, decorated a leaf for the squirrel in the book and shared some of our Autumn treasures we found out and about.

The Rhyme of the week was Head, shoulders, knees and toes. See if your children can sing it to you. They may show you how to sing it fast and slow., We are all very good knowing our body parts for this song.

All week, we have been continuing with colour recognition and matching. Keep practising this at home with your children. You may want to model examples in nature or at home. "you would like to wear your pink top" "I can see the leaves have turnt brown"
