We had an incredible day at the Horniman Museum as part of the launch of our Ancient Egypt topic.

We started with a fascinating workshop where we had the amazing opportunity to handle genuine objects from Ancient Egypt. All of the artefacts had been discovered in tombs and formed part of the Ancient Egyptians' beliefs about the afterlife and the mummification process.

Drawing on our historical enquiry skills, we investigated each artefact like real historians. We used evidence to make informed guesses, asked thoughtful questions and considered different interpretations, helping us develop a deeper understanding of Ancient Egyptian civilisation and its beliefs about the afterlife. We also discussed some important ethical questions about museum collections, including who the objects originally belonged to and whether artefacts taken from tombs should be displayed in museums. We will soon be using what we learned to mummify a fish back at school!

After the workshop, we explored the museum grounds and collected over 100 conkers for our school mud kitchen. With the sun shining, we also enjoyed spending time in the beautiful park near the Horniman Museum.

We enjoyed every minute of our fascinating journey into the past. It was the perfect way to begin our new history topic, and we can't wait to learn more about the remarkable civilisation of Ancient Egypt.
