Year 2 Bake Up History!
Today, our Year 2 children engaged in a fantastic hands-on learning experience by preparing delicious bread rolls. The session was extra special thanks to the wonderful support of our school Nourish Team, who guided and encouraged the children every step of the way.
This practical activity linked perfectly with our current history topic, The Great Fire of London. As we explored life in 1666, the children learned how bread was made during that time and why bakeries played such an important role in the story of the fire. Making bread helped bring history to life and allowed the children to make meaningful connections with the past.
The session also tied in beautifully with our Design and Technology (DT) learning. The children followed instructions, kneaded dough, and talked about changes they could see and feel—developing key skills while having lots of fun.
There was a real buzz of excitement in the room, and the smell of freshly baked bread was a big hit! The children were incredibly engaged, curious, and proud of what they achieved.
A huge thank you to the Nourish Team for supporting such a memorable learning experience. What a brilliant way to combine history, DT, and a sprinkle of joy—well done, Year 2!
