The Three Little Pigs

This week in Reception we have been exploring a range of traditional fairy tales and thinking carefully about the characters in each story. We have been discussing who might be a hero and who might be a villain, and explaining why we think that. The children have particularly enjoyed The Three Little Pigs and have fully immersed themselves in house building in many different ways. We have designed, constructed and tested houses using a variety of materials, thinking about how to make them strong enough to withstand the big bad wolf.

In phonics we have been recapping the ai sound and have learned the ee sounds. As the sounds are becoming more complex, we will now focus on two new sounds each week to allow the children more time to practise reading and writing them confidently. Please continue to practise these sounds at home little and often, as this really helps to build fluency.

In maths we have been learning about addition. We have been putting two numbers together using our ten frames and noticing that when we combine groups, the total gets larger. The children are beginning to use mathematical language to explain what they can see and are developing confidence when representing number in different ways.

We have also been busy developing our outdoor area. If you have any spare pots and pans, cutlery or wooden spoons at home that you no longer need, we would be very grateful for donations for our mud kitchen. The children love imaginative play outdoors and these resources make a big difference.

Today we say goodbye to our Shell class friend Andi. We wish him lots of happiness in his new school closer to his new home. He will be missed and we thank him for being such a lovely part of our class community.
