This week we have been continuing our work on Stick Man and the children have loved designing and making their very own stick characters. They showed great creativity and pride in their ideas and enjoyed talking about who their characters were and what adventures they might go on.

In phonics we learnt the sounds x, y, z and zz. The children have been building words using these sounds in lots of fun and practical ways, including using magnetic letters and games that encourage blending and segmenting.

In maths we have been learning about the composition of the numbers 6 and 7. The children explored how these numbers can be made in different ways and we also played lots of dice games to practise our subitising skills, helping the children to recognise amounts without counting each time.

Stories continue to play an important role in our learning. Sharing stories helps to develop children’s language, imagination and understanding of the world. Stories also support listening skills and help children learn how narratives are structured, which is vital for their early writing development.

Please make sure your child’s book bag comes to school every day and contains their reading record, reading book and phonics book. Try to read regularly at home and practise the sounds as often as you can.

Thank you for your continued support!
