Let's go to Space!
This week in Reception we have been busy learning all about space! We used Google Earth to explore our planet and even found where our school is. It was so exciting to zoom out and see how big the world is! The children then made their own space maps of the Earth and the Moon, showing great creativity and imagination.
We also became rocket engineers! Everyone designed and built their own rockets, and we counted down together; 5,4, 3, 2, 1… blast off! — as we launched them into space.
Our story of the week was Whatever Next! by Jill Murphy. The children loved joining Baby Bear on his adventure to the moon, so we decided to have our very own picnic on the moon too! We made jam sandwiches and even cut them into parts, linking our space fun with our maths learning.
In phonics, we have been learning the sounds p,i, n and have been practising blending these sounds together to make simple words. The children are becoming confident early readers!
We have also started to learn the songs for our Christmas performance, which will be held on Tuesday 2nd December at 2pm. The children are already singing beautifully. We can’t wait to share it with you!
What a wonderful, busy week of learning and exploring!
