2W - Black History Month Activities
In 2W, we have continued to celebrate Black History Month by exploring the amazing achievements of Black inventors, artists, explorers, and thinkers.
We became inventors, designing our own creations through drawing and building with Lego like Arthur Timothy (architect). As illustrators, we followed a video by Dapo Adeola (children’s book illustrator) to make our own artwork. We built spacecrafts and airplanes inspired by Mae Jemison (first Black woman astronaut)and William Robinson Clarke (World War I pilot). As mathematicians, we played maths games and tested each other’s knowledge like Katherine Johnson (NASA mathematician). We turned into authors and poets like John Agard and Nathan Bryon. We also created colourful carnival masks inspired by Claudia Jones (founder of the Notting Hill Carnival). We even drew maps like explorers, following the adventures of Matthew Henson(Arctic explorer).
It has been an exciting month full of creativity, learning, and celebration!
