Fair Testing-Friction

In our Science lessons 2T have been learning about different forces. Last week we carried out an experiment to test the friction between a toy car and different surfaces. We carried out a fair test to see how much friction there was.

The materials we tested were:

  • bubble wrap
  • cork
  • shiny material
  • wooden floor
  • corrugated card
  • felt
  • carpet
  • paper

We made sure that each test was fair by using the same size ramp, car, starting pount and whiteboard.

What we found out:

  • Joel- ‘The corrugated card was so rough, the car got stuck, there was a lot of friction.’
  • Alessia- ‘The wooden floor was so smooth, our car travelled really far’
  • Jemima-‘I think the wooden floor had not much friction with the car because it went so far’
  • Asher- ‘The shiny material was really smooth too, our car went a long way. I think that has not much friction.

Great work 2T! Can you tell someone at home what you have learnt about friction.

  1. This looks really fun 2T!
Did the paper work or not? From Amari

What are you learning about now? More photos please. From Maiah
