5C Visit Creekside Discovery Centre

The class had a fantastic day today finding out about the local river system along with the history and wildlife of the Ravensbourne River at Creekside Discovery Centre.

The children had the opportunity to get hands-on with some interesting artifacts retrieved from the Deptford Creek before putting on their waders and striding out into the water. We learned about the effects of the tide and the flowing river, and used fishing nets to uncover small creatures including fish, crabs and shrimp. We also found evidence of the human impact on the river.

When we return to school, we will build on this experience and the knowledge we picked up to look further into our topic ‘Water, Water Everywhere’.

School Council Vote

Members of 5C were set the important task of choosing their School Council representative this week and 12 members of the class showed great fearlessness in putting their names forward. Each nominee bravely wrote and performed a persuasive speech outlining why they choose be chosen by their classmates.

It was a very close run contest and each of the nominees showed great qualities in their performances, but after an anonymous vote, the class chose Isaac and Padma to represent them for this year.

Congratulations to both of our new School Council members and well done to Xin Yi, Joshua, Reece, Zakariya, Rubaat, Krystal, Didem, Diego, Ria and Naomi for putting themselves forward.

Home Learning: The Water Cycle

Hi Year 5,

What a great start to the year we have had!

This week’s home learning focuses on a subject we have started looking at in our Topic lessons this week and will be really helpful to think about for our upcoming trips to Creekside Discovery Centre in Deptford. We also have a spellings and times tables focus which you should be practising regularly. As always, please make sure you are reading at home every day.

Week 1 HL The Water Cycle

We’re looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
