Windrush Child

Leonie shared pictures of her mother and mother-in-law, and also a postcard of the ship that her husband travelled on ‘The Sorrento’.

In Year 6, we have been studying the wonderful poem ‘Windrush Child’ written by John Agard. It recalls the journey made by thousands of Caribbean children and their families who travelled to Britain as part of the Windrush Generation between 1948 and 1971. On Friday, we were joined by Leonie Noel (also known as Mr Noel’s mum!), who came to share her experience of that very same journey. The children of Year 6 were able to ask Leonie questions that they had prepared and we listened to Leonie’s unique experience of travelling to, and settling in, Britain.
