Penguin week

IMG_6629

This week purple class have been looking at winter. We filled up containers of water and placed fairies, flowers and sequins inside,  the children then put them into the freezer.  The next day we looked at how the water had frozen, the children wore glasses and used wooden hammers to free the fairies from the frozen ice. We found out that salt helps the ice to dissolve.  We used language such as icy, frozen, cold, melting to describe what the ice felt like.

Aliens week in Reception

This weeks home learning is to look for patterns in the environment.pattern pic for blog

In purple class this week, we have been learning about Aliens. We had an Alien party, we counted out how many hats, party bags and cakes we would need for the party.

We made food to take to the moon.

IMG_6241 IMG_3974

We made moon cakes, we then weighed them to see how heavy they were.

IMG_3986

We made a giant marble run on the moon, we used the tubes and blocks to explore speed. We moved the tunnels around to see how fast or slow the balls would roll.

IMG_6240 IMG_6242

We have been learning our number facts to 5 , we made a rocket outside using the large construction, and counted how many Aliens would fit on the space rocket, taking away one Alien each time. We looked at how many Aliens were left in the rocket, and how many Aliens were on the moon outside the rocket.
