‘Handa’s Surprise’ Zig Zag Books!

In Year 1 we have been reading ‘Handa’s Surprise‘.

We have tried all of the fruits from the story including, avocado, pineapple and mango. The children have made their own Zig Zag books drawing each of the fruits and labelling with words and sentences.

The children have also been busy creating puppet theatres to help them learn and re-tell the story. Finally this week, the children have been working on writing their own ‘Handa’s Surprise’ story.

Stay tuned for more photos …!

We are having lots of fun in 1G!

1G have had a great few weeks settling into Year 1!

We have been busy learning and playing. We have read lots of wonderful stories, focusing particularly on books by our focus author; Tom Percival. We have enjoyed reading Dinosaur Roar! and Handa’s Surprise and doing lots of activities linked to these stories.

In 1G we have made promises to each other that we will keep referring back to. These include having kind hands, kind feet and kind words with each other. Listening to each other and looking after our classroom and school.

We are getting excited for our trip to London Zoo next week!

Have a restful weekend

3AG Visit to Tower Bridge

Today, we went to Tower Bridge for a workshop on our topic, ‘Victorians’.

We took the train from Catford Bridge to London Bridge.

Everyone was admiring the bridge while walking along the river! And then…

We went into the Engine Rooms, where steam engines and coal burners were once used to raise the Bridge.

After that, we went to the top of Tower Bridge, which is 42 metres above the River Thames! Everyone was able to walk on the glass floor and look down to see the traffic passing over the bridge and boats sailing beneath it. Well done 3AG, you are so brave!

Finally, we had lunch and we learnt some facts about Tower Bridge. At the end of the workshop, we had to become detectives to answer different questions about a census written in 1911!

What a fabulous day!

Home Learning – 29.9.22

Hello Year 2,

In Science, we have been learning about animals (including humans) and their basic needs. We would like you to choose an animal (even your own pet) and write and/or draw about what they need to stay happy and healthy!

Think about what they’ll eat and drink, where they’ll live and any other things that they will need.

Remember, bring your work in to share with the rest of your class!

Miss Butler and Ms Lowinger 😊
