Investigating ways to make 8

This week we have been taking a closer look at the number 8.

Yesterday we watched a numberblocks episode all about the number 8. Then we shared facts that we already know.

Today we have been working systematically to find all the ways of making 8. We used counters, cubes and an 8 grid.

We have been practising the sentence “8 is made of ___ and ___. ___ and ___ make 8.”

Can you share your answers with someone at home? Make sure you talk in a full sentence.

1S Football taster session

Today we were very lucky to have coach Jarrad from Catford Wanderers come into school and give us a taster football session.

We started with a warm up game. Can you remember what you had to do for each number? This warm up game also helped us practise some football skills.

Then we played a game called catchers and keepers. We had 4 catchers who we had to keep our ball away from. If they got our ball they could use it to score a goal!!

For the last part of our session we played some mini matches! How many points did your team get?

The children will be bringing home some information today about the Catford Wanderers and how they can get involved, outside of school, if they want to.

Visit from the Migration Museum

On Friday, Emily and Cynon came to do an assembly about migration, the museum and to launch an exciting opportunity.

They asked us to reflect on our own migration stories and experiences- it was really interesting!

They invited us to take part in a competition to plan and design an exhibition for the Migration Museum in Lewisham shopping centre. This is a really exciting opportunity and everyone was very interested to know what the prizes would be! (Top prize is an exciting trip!)

After the assembly, we organised ourselves into teams and then got started. Most teams decided to create an exhibition on the Windrush Generation as that has been our focus this term. There were some brilliant ideas for interactive displays, films, music and food which could be served too!

I can’t wait to see the finished designs and hopefully we have a winning team in our midst!
