Year 1 Home Learning 31.3.22

We have had another very busy term in Year 1!! We have enjoyed our topic ‘Eggs Let’s Get Cracking’.

We became chefs and cooked lots of yummy recipes with eggs, as artists we sketched birds and then made sculptures out of clay and we also became Mother ducklings and looked after our eggs and ducklings so well!

Wow Year 1, you have done so much and worked so hard!! Make sure you take the opportunity to rest, relax and hopefully enjoy some lovely weather. Here are some things you could do to get a start on our new topic.

Go on a Spring walk. What signs of spring can you see? How does it feel? You could draw a map of where you went or write a list of the things you saw. You might even want to take some photos on your walk.

Write a book review for a book that you read over the Easter holidays. What did you like about it? Can you give a short summary? Who else would enjoy the book? What was your favourite part and why?

Find about where food comes from. Think about what you eat lots of, perhaps a fruit or vegetable. Where does it come from?

Don’t forget to use bug club, mymaths, times table rockstars and numbots.

Making Clay Birds

This half term we have been exploring clay and making sketches of birds. Today we combined all the skills we have been using to make our own clay sculptures of birds. We had to pinch, pull and squeeze to create the right shape. Once happy with our shapes, we used clay tools to add detail and texture. What did you like about modelling with clay? Did you find anything tricky? Can you remember the name for the type of the bird you created?

Nursery Easter Fun!

The nursery children have been looking at signs of spring. We have lots of new flowers growing in our garden and we have been learning how to care for them and resisted the temptation to pick them!

We learnt about Daffodils and the different parts- Stem, Petals and Trumpet. Can you spot any Daffodils when you’re out and about? Tell your family about the different parts.

We made flowers using loose parts. This is called Transient art.

We patterned some Easter eggs. We have been learning about writing left to right and top to bottom of the paper.

Today we went on an adventure to find the Easter Bunny! The Easter Bunny told us that baby Rabbits are called Kittens. We hunted for one egg each. The eggs were delicious!

In Phonics we have been learning about Syllables. Syllables are the different parts of a word. For example Tiger has two syllables- Tig/er.

See if you can clap the Syllables in your families’ names.

We sorted animals by the number of Syllables in the name.

Here are some more photos of the busy learning that has been happening.

Have a lovely Spring Break with your families. Try to spend some time outside in the garden or the park.
