Leaves, Twigs and Hibernation

With autumn here, Red Class have been thinking about animals that hibernate. Lots of animals have a long sleep through the autumn and winter. They sleep using twigs and leaves for their beds.

Which animals hibernate? Red Class have been using our detective skills to decide. See if you know by using this quiz: https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/puzzles/hibernating-animals

We made pictures of animals that hibernate. Then we made food and nests, burrows and beds for the animals. We had to paint, draw, cut, mix and dig:

We enjoyed the story Fletcher and the Falling Leaves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMlwzElkdLs

Tricky Words

We’ve been learning some tricky words. They are tricky because we can’t sound them out, but we really need to know them when we are reading and writing.

We say them, look at them, and then have a go at writing them.

Don’t forget to try to make as many words as you can from the sounds: a s t p i n m d g o c k

Have a great half term break and we will see you on Tuesday 3rd November.

Bug Club

Just a reminder to use Bug Club during half term. I have recently refreshed all the children’s books and there is a user guide if you scroll down this page. Your child should be able to read the books fairly independently but may occasionally need help answering the questions. In order to be allocated new books, they need to answer the ‘bug’ questions when they appear on a page.

Nursery’s Pyjama Day!

We had a lovely cosy day today in our pyjamas. First we showed everyone our pyjamas. Next we had a discussion on bedtime routines and the things we should do at bedtime.

Here were the children’s ideas-

-Have some warm milk

-Have a bath, shower or a wash

-Brush your teeth

-Wear cosy pyjamas

-Have a bedtime story

-Go to sleep around 7pm.

Please read to your children everyday. Stories at bedtime help promote sleep, language development, imagination and help them to understand the world.

At the end of the day, the children were presented with their very own Holbeach book bags and a book to keep. The children can bring their bag to nursery and borrow a book as often as they like.

Here are some pictures of our day.

At nursery we have been teaching the children to hold the book the correct way up, start at the beginning and turn one page at a time. They love to join in with repeated parts of the story!

This is the book that the children can keep. Happy Reading!

Big Cat Week and lots more!

This week we have been making our own class book, ‘Guess My Big Cat’. We chose a big cat and wrote some clues for our friends to guess from. We all made our own page in the book. We are already enjoying sharing it in the book corner. It is a very popular read!

Here are a few pages from the book…

Can you guess the big cat?

We read the story ‘How to hide a lion’. We told the story with the small world toys.

We also learnt about money this week…

and Autumn…

Have a great half term everyone!
