Staying safe online

Task 1 – Think about your ‘digital footprint’. What do you do when you are online? Which websites do you visit? Which Apps do you use? Which gaming platforms do you log into? Who do you send messages to?

Draw an outline of a footprint like the one below in your book. Write all the ways you use the Internet inside your footprint. Ask a parent or friend to look at your footprint to check you have remembered to include everything you do online. πŸ™‚

  1. Wait, you know when you said who do you message? Isn’t that personal? And the apps you use? What if it is personal?

    1. Then don’t write it. You could say that you message me because people know who I am but say there is someone private then don’t write it. Just write the people that you want to write.

    1. Good Morning Aamori,
Think about all the different ways you use the Internet.
Write those down inside the outline of the foot.
Think carefully about everything you do when you are on your computer (or phone if you have one).
Do you use a console that is logged onto the Internet?
The activity is to encourage you to think about being safe on all those platforms.
      Hope that helps.

  2. What if you know the person online.
Me and my friend, Miriam (neighbour) text each other on, Roblox, WhatsApp, messages. And I meet her on the street? I legit meet her everyday.

    1. Hi Annabel,
If you are sure it is that person then communication with them is fine.
This work is to encourage you to think about situations where you aren’t sure or you can’t be sure.
Sometimes people pretend to be your friends. You don’t need to be scared, you just need to be aware.
Please avoid using words like ‘legit’. This is a virtual classroom, not the playground πŸ˜‰

  3. Wait, what if people do different things.
Eg. If someone texted you nasty things, maybe someone will do it back, one person will not respond and one will block s/he.

  4. On the last question, it’s c because what if the adult can’t do anything. N adult can’t force someone’s friend to do something.

    1. I don’t even have a phone. My mum says that I can get one for my 11th bday.
      Only 11 months to go……
      I rly want one tho.

  5. Miss Lynch. (Important question)
    I like cheese

I was texting Scarla Rae and she said there will be a Zoom call with our new teachers. I am at school tomorrow and probably can’t bring my laptop πŸ˜‚. I just wanted to ask you about this. Are you coming in? Or?

    1. Hi Annabel,
I sent an invitation to all families about tomorrows Zoom meeting a few days ago.
Please ask your Mum to check her email.
I know you are in school when the meeting is supposed to happen.
Let me find out how we can get you to the meeting too.
      Will let you know.

        1. Hi Annabel,
An adult in school will make sure have a laptop and the details to join the 11am meeting tomorrow morning.
Please think about your answers to these questions:
          1. Name 3 things that you can’t live without.
          2. Name 2 things you want me to try to improve about your class.
          3. Name 1 thing you are looking forward to in Year 6.
          See you tomorrow,
          Miss Lynch πŸ™‚
