In Science today, we were investigating which materials make the best sound insulators.
Miss Felton had a problem. She couldn’t sleep because her neighbour’s snoring was keeping her awake. So 4F wanted to help her to get a good night’s sleep by making her some sound blocking ear muffs.
We discussed how we would make the test fair to get the most accurate results and we decided that we would keep the volume of the sound the same for every test, we would make sure that the material covered the ear and also that the thickness of the material was kept the same.
Next we made predictions about which material we thought would make the best sound insulator. What was your prediction and can you explain why?
Do you think bubble wrap is a good sound insulator? Why?
Do you think that tin foil is a good sound insulator? Why?
Do you think cotton wool is a good sound insulator? Why?
Do you think sponge is a good sound insulator? Why?
Do you think paper is a good sound insulator? Why?
Fingers crossed that we can find the best sound insulator so that Miss Felton can sleep peacefully!
